If the nerves of a tooth have been irreparably damaged
either by decay or trauma, rather than extracting the tooth, a
root canal therapy may be performed to save the tooth. Root canal
therapy is required if the tooth has become infected and an abcess
has formed. This involves a minimum of 2 visits, usually 10 days
– 2 weeks apart, with an antibiotic dressing being placed
in the tooth to assist in treating the infection. To further protect
the tooth, a crown may be required at the completion of the endodontic
treatment for added stability and strength.
Treatment of facial pain and TMJ dysfunction is a complex area
that may involve the use of splints and adjunctive physical therapies.
Occasionally, minor changes to the occlusion, either of natural
teeth or incorporating restorations, may be required.
In keeping with modern standards, we use a digital x-ray system.
It delivers fast, high quality images with minimal exposure, which
is an advantage to both patients and operators. Removing the need
for disposing of processing chemicals reduces the impact on the
environment. Digital x-rays are used as a valuable diagnostic
and viewing tool.
Light sedation is available for the apprehensive patient, particularly
for more extensive procedures. |
