Preventive
Dental Program
The best way to treat dental disease is to prevent it. We believe
prevention of tooth decay and gum disease will save you money,
time and pain.
Together, our dental hygienist and dentist will evaluate your
overall oral health and then, depending on your needs, will provide
individual oral hygiene care.
Our hygienist will assess the condition of your gums and teeth.
Methods of maintaining good oral hygiene at home will be discussed
and your teeth will be cleaned and polished.
Your first visit to our hygienist will be for 1 hour. One or more
follow up visits may be required depending on your oral health
needs. Our goal is to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy
for your lifetime. Childrens Chopper Chat We are often asked ‘When should I bring my child
for their first dental visit’? We would like to see your
child before they ever have a toothache. Hopefully, at a very
early age, we can establish a positive association with the dentist.
We suggest you start brushing your childs teeth when the first
tooth appears. (usually around age 6 months).
After age 3, we recommend their first dental visit. Bringing your
child in early (before they might have heard scary dental stories)
will get them comfortable with the new surroundings. They will
learn that this is really a safe and fun place to be. If parents
are positive about their own dental experiences, then this first
visit will be easier for the child. Avoid words such as “it
won’t hurt” and “you won’t get a needle”
because actually all your child hears is hurt and needle.
Early dental disease is preventable. After the first visit, a
6 or 12 month follow-up will be recommended. This helps in establishing
a lifetime habit of preventative dentistry.
